Upon beginning their ambitious comeback project “NCT 2018,” none of us had any idea what was in store from NCT this year. And after experiencing surprise after surprise, I think we’re all, needless to say, a bit shook. 2018 with NCT has been a wonderfully torturous roller coaster of a ride, and I’m not sure any of us are ready for what’s to come. However, let’s take a step back and regroup, as we commemorate the moments from this year that had us the most shooketh. Enjoy!
1. The addition of old and new members
Not only did Jaemin and Ten officially return from hiatus this year, but Kun, Lucas, and Jungwoo became official NCT members as well! Their debuts have been more than successful, with many fans welcoming them with open arms. To be honest, these guys’ existence alone is enough to have anyone shook. Visuals galore, I’m telling you.
2. Their “Weekly Idol” introduction
Since NCT primarily does unit promotion, most of us didn’t realize just how many people we were dealing with until everyone was in one room. So when they tried yet again to explain the unit system on “Weekly Idol,” everything descended into chaos. Even if you weren’t shook by the NCT system, Doni and Coni sure were.
3. NCT Dream and 127’s concept reversal
In the plot twist of the century, NCT Dream did a cooler concept while NCT 127 did a pure, fluffy one. The intensity of “GO” seems much more like NCT 127’s style upon the first listen, but the Dream kids really pulled it off well.
Meanwhile, NCT 127’s “Touch” is a very feel-good bop that will easily get stuck in your head. The choreography and music video are instant mood lifters, as the 127 boys’ smiles are just too infectious!
4. Ten’s solo
“New Heroes” is the savior we didn’t know we needed, and the gem we still don’t deserve. Ten’s vocals really shone during this comeback, especially during this song. AND the lyrics are insightful and inspiring? Sign me the heck up.
5. The quality af cinematography
I’m looking at you, NCTmentary! Seriously, the teasers for NCT 2018 are on another level, to the point where I’d watch them just on their own. The plot is meta beyond all comprehension, but you learn to love it nonetheless.
6. That 100 second choreography video
If anything, NCT is known for their beyond-tight choreo, and this video shows that off perfectly. The hours of practice the members put in must be incredible, as their effort shows when they’re asked to dance in a variety of styles.
7. The sexy anthem that is “Baby Don’t Stop”
Nobody expected that a duet song would come from NCT this year, nor did they expect a sexy concept would come from NCT this year. So SM said, “Why not both?” and decided to kill everyone in one fell swoop. Plus, who survived those teasers, not to mention the live performances? Trick question, nobody did.
8. General V Live antics
NCT has been especially active on V Live this year, a habit which has given us a variety of memes to add to the library. Maybe shook isn’t exactly the word to describe it, but you’ll certainly be laughing for hours if you watch these “funny moments” compilations.
9. The epicness that is “Black on Black”
Seeing all 18 members dance on one stage is a sight to behold. Not only is “Black on Black” a powerful song, but the dance moves themselves exude charisma throughout. Unfortunately, it’s impossible for every member to get a close-up in a group this big; but we still appreciate their performances regardless!
